Haddon Hall

Bakewell, Derbyshire

This is the very place of my fairy-tale-fantasies: the rose-garden for the little princess within the old grey stonewalls. This is the garden-estate I love most of all I have seen in England! And there is nothing stuffy in the room inside the old walls - it's a pleasure to walk around  looking at all the interesting and pretty architectural details, as well as on the outside facades. The little museum is a treasure of nostalgia.
The garden is a real plantswomen's garden - with all these old walls at hand to cover with roses and clematis! (At my third visit in 2001 it looked like the responsibility for this gorgeous inheritance was handed over to the new generation. May they succeed!)
