Clematis viticella 'Rubra' bought from M. Johnson. in Sodertalje.

Magnus Johnson worked for a good part of his life at a monograph on Clematis. It is now available in English.

On a visit to the Clematis-specialist Magnus Johnson, his son-in-law showed how to propagate clematis by cutting - the 'close up' shows how he used a sharp pincer to snip of a stem a couple of cm over and below a pair of leaves. Then inserted the stem in soil up to the leaves. I prefer to put the whole in a plastic-bag, not having a damp-chamber.

A plant I raised from seed.

Clematis flammula.
Sweet fragrance of almond in late summer. Cut it down entirely in early
spring and it grows up to full height during the summer. I give all my
clematis bone-meal every year.
